What Are You Buying
1. Garden Swing With Shingle Roof
The Duckpaddle Heritage Garden Swing comes complete with a shingle roof and a 3-sided trellis frame. It’s essentially a swing set inside a cozy garden shelter. Not only will it look beautiful in your backyard, it’s also practical.
Thanks to the roof, you can enjoy your swing in any weather, without worrying about the sun, snow, or rain. It’s also handy if you don’t have an existing pergola or porch that you can attach a garden swing to. Instead of buying a garden swing on its own and then building a structure for it from scratch, it’s easier and probably cheaper to get the complete set.
2. 2 or 3 Seater Swing Seat
The swing seat is wide enough to seat up to three people. If you opt to use the included armrest, it becomes a 2-seater bench, perfect for couples.
The seat is designed to be comfortable. It has plenty of depth and a high back, allowing you to lounge comfortably for hours. For extra comfort, add the optional seat cushions to your order.
The removable armrest provides a place to rest your arm, and it’s also wide enough to hold drinks, a plate of snacks, and other items like a book or a phone. Fixed shelves on the sides of the trellis frame provide additional space to place drinks and other items.
3. Versatile Styling Options
Duckpaddle lets you choose how you want your garden swing to look like with plenty of styling options to choose from.
To start with, you can pick between two different types of swing seats: the Avebury cradle and the Beaumont cradle. The Avebury cradle has a traditional flat seat while the Beaumont cradle is contoured for added comfort.
Then pick what colour you prefer. There are seven options including green smoke, stone blue, and new white. If none of the colours appeal to you, for an extra £30, you can choose the bespoke option and then specify the colour you’d like your garden swing to be painted. In other words, you can get the Heritage Garden Swing in any colour you want, from jet black to hot pink.
In addition, you can choose what you want the back of the trellis frame to look like. Options are a solid back (extra privacy and wind protection) or a tongue and groove trellis back.
There’s also an option to add a pair of footstools to your setup. They make the swing a lot more comfortable to lounge in, especially if you plan to spend hours in it. They are also a beautiful addition to the swing, with a stylish curved design and cedar slats that match the roof.
Finally, you can opt for a pair of painted planters to further style up your cozy garden swing. These are available in three sizes.
4. Made with Pressure-treated Wood
The Heritage Garden Swing is built to last a long time and withstand all kinds of weather. The swing is made from pressure-treated Scandinavian Redwood, while the roof consists of treated battens and Red Cedar shingles with a lifetime of at least 15 years.
Using pressure-treated wood makes the swing more resistant to rotting, pests, insects, moisture damage, and even fire.
How Easy Is It to Assemble?
Currently, Duckpaddle is offering free delivery and construction of their Heritage Garden Swing (except in a few postcodes). You don’t have to worry about putting together the structure, which would be a lot of work.
That said, you need to have a level and solid area ready for the swing to be installed on. The swing measures 140cm deep, 225cm wide, and 240cm high (plus a 200mm roof overhang all around). Duckpaddle recommends leaving a 150mm clearance on all sides to ensure the posts are not sitting right on the corners.
Make sure the prepared area is large enough to accommodate the swing plus the clearance. If you also plan to get the footstools or the planters, you’ll need to have enough space for them as well.
What Accessories Are Included?
This garden swing setup includes the swing itself (bench and chains), a roof, trellis sides, and a removable centre armrest.
Optional add-ons include footstools, cushions, and planters. Of course, you can further accessorise the swing with things like lights, additional planters, and an outdoor heater for when the weather gets cold.
Pros
- Stylish and practical garden swing with roof.
- High quality construction – guaranteed durability.
- Multiple styling options, including an unlimited choice of colour.
- Free delivery and construction.
Cons
- Pricey – if you want a cheaper alternative, check out one of their standalone garden swings without a roof.
Anything Else You Should Know?
Taking care of the Heritage Garden Swing is pretty easy. Duckpaddle recommends applying a water or oil based preservative on the wood every 1-2 years and touching up the paint every two years (you can order a can of touch-up paint from them).
Other than that, the only other thing you need to do is clean up any organic material like lichens and mosses that build-up on the wood. Leaving them on the surface can cause decay and rotting. With good care, the garden swing should last at least 15 years.
Conclusion
The Heritage Garden Swing is a beautiful addition to any garden, and it’s perfect if you are looking for a cosy outdoor place where you can relax all year round.
