About Me
It has been over four years since I found myself. That was the day I first placed my hands in the earth and began to watch things grow. My name is Jack Bennett, and I have been gardening for nearly five years now, and it has become my passion. Some call it my hobby, but those people have never seen me drag myself into the office each day and then race like the wind off to enjoy my garden at every possible spare moment. Nothing offers me more freedom than watching life start out as almost nothing and eventually grow into something beautiful and nourishing.
I have two young children and live in the Devon countryside with my lovely wife. The kids are just now at an age where they love to get dirty with me. Unfortunately, we had to establish the “kids garden” as a separate but equal area away from that of the grown-ups. We tried the community approach; however, many of the plants seemed to be less fond of the little ones because they were a bit over affectionate at times.
I want to share what I am learning each day with readers to make the world a better place one plant at a time. Knowledge is not nearly as fun when it is monopolised, and I cherish the opportunity to swap informative stories and tips with readers each day. There is nothing which can be considered insignificant in the world of gardening and most of the best tips which have come my way have been offered up from the least expected places. I will listen to your ideas and learn from you, and we can all share those little specialities which will make us extraordinary gardeners together.
If we are willing to send each other tips and ideas, we will learn through our strength in numbers and our gardens will benefit greatly from our partnership. It will be my pleasure to explore the joy of gardening with those of you who share my passion, and I look forward to touching base with you soon. Best Wishes and two green thumbs up to all.

Hi Jack. Thanks for the helpful blog on gardening. I need to change a fence in my garden and wonder if I can ask for your advice.
If I have the new fence installed during early December, could low or freezing tempartures weaken the concrete holding the posts? Two fencers told me they use special quick setting concrete which is suitable for use in cold weather, but I am not sure because even quick set concrete takes up to 48 hours to properly dry. Would you advise installing a new fence even overnight tempartures happened to be below zero? Thanks
Jack: Hopefully you will be able to help me! My problem is with a fox or foxes entering my swimming pool during the night and pooping – have tried to place gates around all pool steps which hasn’t worked. Have also used a solar animal repeller which sets off a flashing light and siren (40 foot range) which hasn’t worked. Have thought of placing a black plastic fence over the existing six foot black iron fence but am doubtful that it will deter the fox since they are capable of climbing / jumping over it. Have not tried using a “spray” around the pool – since it would have to be redone each time it rained. Would really appreciate your assistance!
